About the Competition

The Drs. David & Agnes Palmer JA Titan Competition, sponsored by the Vickie Anne Palmer Foundation, allows high school students to run a simulated company in a business strategy tournament. Students compete in local qualifying rounds and advance to the Scholarship Competition where $8,000 in scholarships are awarded.

The JA Titan program is an online educational business model that teaches students about the real economic choices today's corporate leaders face every day. Price, production, marketing, capital investment and research and development are some of the basic economic concepts the students must understand and be ready to use as a basis for their business decisions.

On the day of the competition, four-member student teams and their corporate mentors compete in a series of simulated business quarters and cycles. Like the CEOs of today's business world, the students are judged by their performance and the business decisions they make.  The winning team is determined by the highest ranking performance index (PI) at the end of the day. The top teams from each qualifying round advance to the Scholarship Competition.

Tony Knobbe served as a corporate mentor for a Moline High School team.  After participating in the qualifying round at Scott Community College, Tony’s team received a “wild card” invitation to advance to the Scholarship Competition that was held at JA World on November 19.  At this competition Tony’s team placed third overall.  Each team member received a $250 scholarship.  Congratulations Tony and students!
