You're probably
thinking what is operation prom - right? Operation Prom is a drinking &
driving program to show young adults the realistic views of drinking &
driving. Operation Prom is done the week of prom, with kids from the school
playing in it as the victims. Seniors are taken out of their 6th & 7th
period classes to watch this out at the driving range. The young adults watching
this will see a simulated automobile accident that portrays the injuries &
deaths caused by drinking and driving. After that demonstration, students
go into the auditorium where they listen to people who have survived drunk
driving accidents.
Since May 1993, the Moline Fire Department, Local 581 IAFF, Moline Police
Department, Rock Island County Coroner’s office, local EMS systems,
and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), put on this event every year. Their
goal is to dramatically impact the students and to change their thinking along
with their behaviors toward drinking then driving.
