Saturday Serendipity

Activities

Saturday Serendipity is an event sponsored by the Moline Council for the Gifted. Classes are intended for high-ability students (from the PATS program or as identified by elementary school teachers, grades 1-6) and are usually held in March. Some of the courses include creative writing, physical sciences, theatre, creative arts, computers, and much more.

Parents who are members of Moline Council for the Gifted receive advance notice of course information and a $5 registration discount. Registration is limited for Saturday Serendipity and classes fill quickly. All proceeds from Saturday Serendipity registrations are used to fund academic requests from teachers throughout Moline School District No. 40.

Previous Projects Funded by MCG

* Complete funding of a Spanish teacher and materials for PATS classes grades 2-6
* Funding for Spanish Club at Wilson Middle School for students who are in both the PATS program and members of the MCG
* STARLAB, the portable planetarium, for enrichment to the curriculum for all students throughout the district
* Financial support to elementary schools district-wide

Saturday Serendipity

For 24 years, Moline Council for the Gifted (MCG) has been offering enrichment opportunities to children. The batch of classes offered this past spring were “par for the course” as we offered 23 classes to over 300 children. Each year we try to mix the best sellers with a few new areas to explore. Added this session were Gymnastics, Musical Theatre, and a pilot program for Fireworks involving beads. The favorites of Meteorology, Be a Detective, and World War II keep the kids coming back for more! Look for this years offering to be even bigger and better. In January, invitations will be mailed to MCG members to ensure they have first chance at registering for their classes. Invitations are then sent home with the PATS students and given to selected students in the district as chosen by their teachers.
