Spelling Bee

The spelling bee is open to any seventh or eighth grader who is interested in participating. Grade level bees are held during the school day just before or after the winter break. Six winners from seventh grade and six winners from eighth grade go on to compete in the Moline District #40 Bee which is usually held in January. This bee also includes winners from fifth and sixth grades and the competition is fierce! Five winners from the district bee go on to compete at Augustana College in the regional bee, usually held in March. The winner of that bee competes in Washington D.C. with the winners from fifty states. It is a week of fun with tours, special events, new friends, and newspaper coverage. All expenses for the week, including transportation and hotel, are paid by the Dispatch Argus newspaper. It is really worth working toward winning the regional bee and representing our area in Washington D.C.
