Yearbook

ADVISOR: This is Mrs. Michele McKee's 18th year as the yearbook advisor.

STAFF: The Vision yearbook staff consists of approximately 25 students. Bailey Niemeier is the only staff member returning for a second year. Bailey worked on the yearbook last year as a 7th grader and will serve as this year's editor. She has the responsibility of proofreading each page that is submitted for publication. She encourages others to meet deadlines, or she will take over the layout of a page if necessary. The rest of the staff was chosen from applications submitted in early-September. The application included information about time and talents as well as a sample of the student's writing. The majority of the yearbook staff is eighth graders!

MEETINGS: The yearbook staff meets briefly every Monday afternoon. The students do meet on other days when it is close to deadlines in November and February. The all-staff meetings are used for training and making major decisions regarding the publication. For example, at the beginning of the year, the staff organizes yearbook picture day, chooses the cover and end-sheet designs, and organizes the student sections of the book. Other major events throughout the school year that involve the entire staff are: yearbook sales in October, possible fundraising in April, and yearbook distribution at the end of the year. Most of the time students work independently or in small groups. They sign up for at least one two-page spread to cover for the yearbook and arrange time before and after school to meet the page requirements. Staff members have to choose pictures, write stories and captions, and draw the layout on the computer.

PHOTOS: The photos used in the publication come from a wide variety of sources. Photographic Arts, Geneseo and Moline, provide student and staff portraits as well as all sports team and music department group photos. All other candid photography is done in school and at school events using a 35 mm camera. We do accept donated photographs from students, parents and faculty and may use them for use in the publication or other special projects. The resolution on digital photographs is something we must consider. The higher the resolution, the better.

ORDER YOUR OWN YEARBOOK: Yearbooks will be sold through period 1 classes at the end of October and the beginning of November. Yearbook staff members will also be on hand during Fall Student-Led Conferences to take your orders. The cost of a yearbook is $20.00. Checks should be made payable to Moline Board of Education. NO YEARBOOKS WERE SOLD AT REGISTRATION!

BOOK SPECIFICATIONS: The 2009 Vision Yearbook will be the 48th edition produced at Woodrow Wilson. It is an 80-page book put together by a group of 25 staff members and one advisor. The layouts are produced online using design templates provided by Herff Jones Yearbooks. The Vision is printed in black and white on 80-pound Bordeaux Special gloss paper. The Times Roman font is used throughout the book in sizes: 30 point for Headlines, 14 point for Sub-Headlines, 10 point for Body Copy, and 8 point for Captions. The book will be 7-3/4 inches by 10-1/2 inches. It will have a square-backed, 7/8 inch thick, sewn binding. The cover design will be chosen from a wide selection of Herff Jones covers. This year’s cover is a lithograph print. It is only the second time a lithograph has been used for the publication.

DISTRIBUTION: The yearbooks will be printed in the spring by Herff Jones Yearbooks, Marceline, Missouri. They are distributed during the last week of school. Students who have obligations will not receive their yearbooks until the obligations are taken care of. Extra yearbooks, usually less than 20, may be available for purchase after all ordered yearbooks are distributed. The cost will be $20.00 cash! For more information email Mrs. McKee
