Moline - Coal Valley School District was recently informed by Pearson Clinical Assessment that the company encountered a data breach with their AIMSweb 1.0 product by an unauthorized third party. Moline - Coal Valley School District previously used AIMSweb 1.0 to progress monitor students receiving certain interventions and is one of 13,000 Pearson customers affected by this incident. Our school district stopped using AIMSweb 1.0 prior to this data breach.
Pearson recently informed customers that the data breach was limited to only student first name and last name, school email address, and in some cases, date of birth. No other identifying student information was part of the incident. Pearson has stated that the data impacted was from the years 2001 through 2016.
Although there is no evidence that any data was misused, the Moline - Coal Valley School District wants to make you are aware of this issue and is looking deeply into how the Pearson breach affects our students and staff members. Should we find any issues, we will provide immediate notification.
Free credit monitoring service from Experian is available to any student who was enrolled in our school district during 2001-2016. The Moline - Coal Valley School District takes the security of all student, family and staff data very seriously. When required for services, the district only provides the minimal amount of data. Any partnership with outside vendors is closely monitored and evaluated regularly. Pearson Clinical Assessment has worked with cybersecurity experts to evaluate this issue and have taken preventative measures so this will not happen again with their product.
