Moline Media Informational Videos
In honor of Black History Month, Lincoln-Irving librarian Melissa Gravert put together a lesson about “The ABC’s of Black History”! For the letter “C”, she presented Rock Island resident Thurgood Brooks for his work in the community. Principal Rosi Portillo and 4th grade dual language teacher Patricia Perea had the opportunity to meet Thurgood at a LULAC 5285 meeting and showed him the ABC’s of Black History slideshow. He was humbled to be featured in the “C is for Community” slide. Mrs. Portillo asked him to create a short message for students to include in their video morning announcements. Here is his motivational message to students to be "Smart Cookies" and do well on their testing.
Our talented K-12 grade students, staff, and alumni of MCV schools sing “Old Moline”, written in 1995 by former MHS Director of Choirs, Ron May, and retired general Music teacher Mary Tallitsch. This Alma Mater song has traditionally been performed at MHS choir concerts since its inception in the 90’s. This three-month project was designed to bring students and the community together after a year of detachment due to the pandemic. The project was coordinated by Ben Holmes, Director of Choirs at Wilson Middle School. We hope you enjoy this amazing performance of “Old Moline”!
