Students are expected to maintain a neat and clean appearance. Any clothing or appearance which is obscene, disruptive to the educational process, or presents health or safety problems will not be permitted. Clothing NOT ALLOWED include but are not limited to: torn or ripped jeans, baggy clothing, spaghetti straps, short skirts and/or shorts, midriff exposed outfits and items that include inappropriate language and/or advertisements promoting violence, drugs and alcohol.
Additionally, students are not allowed to wear hats, head coverings, coats, sunglasses during the school day. This rule is to help give our schools a learning environment free of distractions and that is appropriate and respectful.
No Weapons Policy
A student who uses, possesses, controls, or transfers a weapon, or any object that can reasonably be considered, or looks like a weapon, shall be expelled for at least one calendar year. The expulsion period may, however, be modified by the Superintendent, and the Superintendent's determination may be modified by the Board, on a case-by-case basis. In no case may the expulsion exceed two calendar years. A "weapon" means (1) possession, use, control or transfer of any gun, rifle, shotgun, a weapon as defined by Section 921 of Title 18, United States Code, firearm as defined by Section 1.1 of the Firearm Owners Identification Act, or use of a weapon as defined in Section 24-1 of the Criminal Code, (2) any other object if used or attempted or intended to be used to cause bodily harm, including, but not limited to, knives, brass knuckles, billy clubs, or (3) "look-a-like's" of any weapon as defined above. Such items as baseball bats, pipes, bottles, locks, sticks, pencils, and pens may be considered weapons if used or attempted to be used to cause bodily harm. The building Principals or designee shall notify the criminal justice or juvenile delinquency systems of any student who brings a firearm or weapon to school.
School Transfer Policy
In the spring (if possible), parents who wish to transfer their children from one Moline or Coal Valley school to another, should complete an application form (one for each child) available in the school office. A transfer request to a specific school is required only one time. The request form must be completed, returned to Allendale, Office of Pupil Personnel Services and receive administrative approval. We try to assist parents with requests for student transfers. Sometimes, classroom overcrowding or other issues may prevent approval. Also, students who have poor school attendance, disruptive behavior, or are chronically tardy, may have their school transfer permission taken back. Requests submitted after June 1st will be reviewed by District administration after registration is completed for the fall.
Accordingly, Illinois School Code 105 ILCS 5/26-1 Compulsory Attendance states that a child must “attend some public school in the district wherein the child resides the entire time it is in session during the regular school term” except for the following valid reasons: illness, observance of a religious holiday, death in the immediate family, family emergency, and shall include such other situations beyond the control of the student as determined by the board of education in each district, or such circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent for the safety or health of the student.
In accordance with the Illinois School Code family vacations or trips do notconstitute a “valid cause” for an absence and should, therefore, be listed as an unexcused absence.
All buildings must enforce and follow the Illinois School Code. Therefore, absences will be adjudged by the Building Administrator to be excused or unexcused.
Excused Absences include:
- Personal Illness
- Death in the family
- Religious holiday
- Family emergency
Unexcused Absences include:
- Transportation problems
- Business that could be held outside regularly scheduled school hours
Credit will not be granted for work missed during an unexcused absence.
New Illinois law prohibits social promotion. Students must earn the right to be promoted, instead of promotion due to their age or grade level. The decision to promote a student to the next grade level shall be based on a variety of criteria including successful completion of the curriculum, attendance, or National or State achievement test results. A copy of the State and local testing dates is printed on the district school calendar.
Notice of Asbestos Management Plan
Our school district is required to provide notice of Environmental Protection Agency requirements pertaining to 40CFR763 subpart E. Our management plan is available for review in the Moline School District No. 40 administration offices, Attn: Darryl Snyder, Director of Facilities, 1619 11th Ave. Moline, IL (309) 743-8129. Plans for each specific school are available in the office of the Principal. All plans are available during regular business hours.
Notice of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Pesticides in almost every case are not applied within the buildings when children are present. Only when necessary, pesticides least harmful to people and the environment are used and include combined preventive techniques and non-chemical pest control methods. If you want to be notified prior to your child’s school having an application of pesticide, please send a written request to the address below. Please specify when you would like to be notified of applications during the school year, non-student attendance days, or summer vacation. Please include your child’s name, school, grade level, your request, parent’s name and mailing address. Moline School District No. 40 students "Directory Information" may be released to the media, governmental agencies, law enforcement agencies, suppliers of school material, and may be used for state and governmental reporting.

- Information in relation to school sponsored activities, organizations, and athletics

- Period of attendance in the school
The above information may be submitted to the authorized representative of the requesting organization throughout the school year. Parents, legal guardians, and custodians of students in the Moline School District No. 40 have the opportunity to inspect, copy, and/or challenge the information to be released.
