LIGHTS ON FOR LEARNING IS COMING BACK!   Pick up a permission form from the main office or outside of Ms. Glessner’s room (B149).  Return signed forms as soon as possible as programs will probably begin in September.

 

MORNING COFFEE CLUB: Do you love to read and talk about books?  

Consider joining Morning Coffee Club!  Coffee Club meets 5 times a year to eat donuts, drink juice, and discuss a book.  You should have or will be receiving an invitation to join Morning Coffee Club from your ELA teacher.  Forms need to be returned by Wednesday, August 28th. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Smice in room C205. 



P.E. T-SHIRTS and SPIRITWEAR:  If you are a 6th grader who attended FRANKLIN or WASHINGTON last year and have not picked up your P.E. t-shirt and/or Spiritwear, see Mrs. Wiemers 

in the Auditorium Lobby or Room C101.

 

YEARBOOK PICTURE DAY: All students and staff will have their 2019-20 school portraits taken on August 30 in P.E. class.  Students will receive an order envelope from their P.E. teacher TODAY. Parents can order portraits online OR you can bring the order envelope with exact payment to P.E.  Students are reminded to follow the dress code when choosing their clothing - no spaghetti straps or off-the-shoulder garments, no bandanas, do-rags, or hats.

 

WILSON FLAG CORPS:  Any 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade student who is interested in performing with the Marching Band as a member of the Wilson Flags should see Mrs. McKee in computer lab (B215) to pick up an information sheet. Practices begin after school next Monday, August 26th from 3:20 to 4:30 p.m.  

 

SPRING SPORTS PICTURES:  If you have any pictures of last spring’s boys tennis or track events, please share them with Mrs. McKee.

  

CROSS COUNTRY:  All students (new and returning) who are interested in running cross country this season, should write their names and shirt sizes on the sign-up sheet outside Mr. Perkins’ door (Room A134 at the end of the science-wing hallway).  Hey 6th graders: YOU are able to sign up and run cross country as well!  Don’t delay! It is very important that all interested runners and their parents attend an informational meeting after school this TODAYd starting at 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

 

MHS CHEER CLINIC:  There is information in the office for the Moline Fall Cheerleading Clinic to be held October 12th.

The registration process has concluded. If you did not pre-register (verify student information) online using Family Access AND/OR you were required but did not report to Wilson Middle School to verify your residency with two forms (utility bill, property tax statement, mortgage statement, etc.), you will complete this process at Wharton Field House TOMORROW, Tuesday, August 20th between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. According to the Illinois State School Codes, students may not attend school until they have registered.

 

Please be aware of the Illinois immunization and other health requirements for 2019-2020

 

Vaccinations:
3 doses of Polio 
2 doses of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
3 doses of Hepatitis B for students entering grade 6
2 doses of Varicella (Chicken Pox) for students entering Kindergarten, 6th and 9th grades
1 dose of the Tdap vaccine (containing tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) for all students entering, transferring, or advancing into 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades. Most students may have already received the vaccine and simply need to provide the school with verifying documentation from the family health care provider.
1 dose of Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccination (MCV) on or after 11 years of age.

Dental Examination for those entering 6th grade
Eye Examination for students enrolling in an Illinois school for the first time

 

 

UNPACK YOUR BACKPACK: All district school buildings will be open at various times on Monday, August 19th. Student schedules will also be available at Unpack your Backpack/Open House here at Wilson TONIGHT, Monday, August 19th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Period 1 class lists will be posted at the entrances. Students will report to that Period 1 teacher to receive their printed schedule. Students and their parents are then welcome to walk the building to meet the staff, check out their other classrooms and lockers, and unpack.

FOOTBALL: Practices for 7th and 8th-grade football continue each weekday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Wilson Middle School field.  Equipment needed: T-shirt, gym shorts, cleats, and mouthpiece. Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. Every player must have an updated sports physical, paid the athletic fee, and signed parent permission form on file with the Athletic Director in order to start practice.

All 7th-grade athletes must attend Day 1 of tryouts TOMORROW, Tuesday, August 20th from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. There will be one cut made after the first day.  For those 7th graders advancing, there will be a Day 2 for tryouts on Wednesday, August 21st from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m.
 
You are asked to wear appropriate clothing including a t-shirt with your last name on the back of it (You may write it in large letters on a piece of tape.), gym shoes, and knee pads (if you have them).

GABE'S GIFT MEMORIAL 5K RACE: The time has once again come for this year's memorial race in honor of Gabriel Perkins. The link below will take you to the registration site for the 5K and the mile. We're going to be providing a chip-timed event this year! Please consider signing up to participate. It will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Jane Addams Elementary School. Go to Gabe's Gift Memorial 5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Run to get registered.

6th Grade Orientation

6th GRADE ORIENTATION: Welcome Class of 2026! 8th-grade W.E.B. leaders will be on hand to help 6th graders get acquainted with each other and our building TODAY, Friday, August 16th from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.  There is nothing you need to bring. Dress comfortably. Students will be in the gym and classrooms, sitting on the floor, involved in team-building activities, touring the building, finding their classes and lockers, etc, etc, etc. (Bring school supplies to school on Unpack your Backpack night.)
