Alternative Educational Programming (Grades 6-12)
The Moline-Coal Valley School District houses an alternative learning environment for students, grades 6-12. Known as ASPIRE (Alternative Student Programming for Individualized and Remote Education), the alternative program is located on the northeast wing of Moline High School’s campus. The ASPIRE program provides flexible programming based on individual student needs. Some of the supports available to students include:
● Social-emotional instruction during an Advisory period
● Small class sizes
● Individualized instruction and tutoring in all subject areas
● behavior management strategies and reinforcements
● Social work and counseling services
● Additional adult support with paraprofessionals
● Student Success Planning with parental input
● More flexible scheduling to accommodate student needs & graduation requirements
● Career programming & access to extracurricular activities through MHS
● Annual review of student programming and progress
Although parent requests are a consideration for enrollment in the alternative learning program, typically students are referred through building Student Solutions Teams for concerns with behavior, credit acquisition, or exceptional circumstances that make success in the traditional school setting difficult even with provided interventions and supports. For more information on the ASPIRE program, please contact your middle or high school building principal, counselor, or dean.
